Is SageWalk right for my child?
The Typical SageWalk Student
SageWalk is designed for adolescents between the ages of 13-17 who are experiencing some of the following:
- Low self-esteem
- Low self-confidence
- Running away
- School truancy
- Family conflicts
- Substance use
- Limited sense of accountability
- ADHD (Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder)
- ODD (Oppositional Defiant Disorder)
- Mood Disorders (Depression, Bipolar Disorder)
- Anxiety Disorders
- Adjustment Disorders
- Adoption issues and/or attachment issues
- Entitlement issues
- Relationships with undesirable peers
- Lack of problem solving skills
- Difficulty managing anger
- Failing academically
- Out of control behavior in the home, at school, or in the community
- Defiance towards authority figures
- "Minor" delinquent behaviors
If your child is experiencing any of the above problems he/she may be appropriate for the SageWalk program. Please take a moment to review our list of exclusions. If your child is currently experiencing any of the issues on this list, we are not the appropriate program.
Exclusions
- Extremely violent
- High suicide risk
- Pregnant
- Anorexic/Bulimic
- Extremely obese
- Renal Disease
- Severe addictions that require a hospital setting detoxification process
- Physical conditions or disease limiting their ability to safely hike up to 10 miles per day over rough terrain carrying a 35-45 pound backpack, or to endure extended outdoor living in cold, hot or wet weather
- Physical conditions or disease requiring ongoing nursing care or medical supervision
